Proven Method to Remove Urine Odor from Concrete

Need a sure way to remove urine odors from concrete slabs? Use the following process and ODORx Un-Duz-It Unleashed to conquer this unique odor removal challenge.

Remember the first principle of any odor removal process: find and eliminate the source.

  1. Clean the affected area to remove as much surface contamination as possible. Depending on the severity of odors, this could involve scrubbing and mopping or even a rinse extraction using a portable or truckmount extractor.
  2. Prepare and apply a solution of equal parts Un-Duz-It Unleashed and water. Use a watering can or sprayer to thoroughly coat the substrate.
  3. Cover the treatment area with 6 mil black plastic to retard the evaporation process and allow the Unleashed to penetrate to the same degree the urine did. For best results, allow the area to stay wet for 24 hours and then evaluate. If the odor is gone, proceed with cleaning.
  4. If urine odor still persists, repeat the treatment as described above, apply diluted Unleashed, cover it with plastic, and leave it until the next day. Again, to ensure soils and odors are completely removed, rinse extract the floor with the spinner operated at 900–1000 psi.
  5. To clean after the odor is gone, rinse and extract the urine, dirt and water from the concrete with a spinning tile and grout cleaning tool attached to a commercial extractor or truckmount. Operate the tool at 900–1000 psi to ensure maximum removal.

In most cases, a second treatment as described above will remove even the most stubborn odors. However, if odors still persist, apply three coats of Zinsser B-I-N Shellac-Based White Interior Primer and Seal on the concrete surface to seal in the odor. If flooring will be installed top of the concrete, the Zinsser product should be applied to the concrete first.
